Description:

Native American, Central United States, Great Plains Tribes, likely Apache, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely ceremonial tomahawk shaped from a forged-iron blade head - itself doubling as a pipe bowl - attached to the end of a lengthy wooden handle. The handle is adorned with a large leather panel decorated with beadwork strips and brass studs, and protruding from the bottom is a petite mouthpiece bit carved from ivory. A hole is drilled under the metal pipe into the wood so smoke can be drawn in when the user is inhaling through the mouthpiece bit. Size: 8.1" L x 1.6" W x 20.2" H (20.6 cm x 4.1 cm x 51.3 cm)
