Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Apache, ca. 1890s to 1920s CE. A choice basket bowl woven and twined from willow, sumac, devil's claw, or other native plants, featuring a figural and animal motif. The base is narrow and flat; the coils expand and flare upward to the broad opening; the surface is also very smooth, and the stitches are incredibly tight - pleasingly aesthetic throughout. The tight weave and conical shape were ideal for use as cooking and serving baskets. The animals appear to be deer alternating with humans on the upper register. This is an exemplary and older piece that has fabulous pictorial elements which are highly coveted by collectors. Size: 13" Diameter x 6" H (33 cm x 15.2 cm)
