Description:

Central Asia, India, Rajasthan, ca. late 19th century CE. An antique wooden chest that is hand painted with Mughal court ladies and gentlemen, each figure dressed in refined garments and bedecked with Mughal jewelry (truly dripping with pearls). The painted imagery embellishes the lid as well as the sides of this elegant curved treasure chest. All is delineated in vibrant warm gold, vermilion red, autumnal orange, pale pink, and spring green hues against a deep black ground - and the seated figures, some of whom hold fans and others hold musical instruments - are surrounded by attractive floral borders. A wonderful example! Size: 16" L x 9.4" W x 11" H (40.6 cm x 23.9 cm x 27.9 cm)
