North Africa, Morocco, Fez (Fes) region, ca. late 19th to mid-20th century CE. This is a beautiful wheel thrown serving dish that presents a broad basin hand painted in a bold blue on white. The vessel rests on a ring foot that is pierced and threaded with a wire for suspension when not in use - perfect for displaying on a wall. The thick walls swell upward to a wide rim and shallow basin, and the surface is painted a creamy white for the cobalt blue to contrast against - the rim has a linear cross hatching pattern and the central basin tondo contain a 6-pointed star shape, stippling, and thick bands encircle the sides. Size: 11.25" Diameter x 3" H (28.6 cm x 7.6 cm)
