Description:

North America, Mexico, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-carved wooden walking stick of a slender form with a spherical handle top. The curved cane features a myriad of incised linear and crosshatch motifs, grooved stippling, and highly stylized zoomorphic creatures crawling across the tapered body. The handle displays a bird head that sprouts the body from its beak, with an eagle clutching a snake in its talons, a bird with a checkered 'shell' and a feathered tail, and a pair of sinuous lizards along the lower body. Wonderful patina has developed across the entire walking stick. Size: 1.25" W x 37.125" H (3.2 cm x 94.3 cm)
