Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Latin America, Mexico, ca. mid to late 19th century CE. A moulded male wax doll depicting a dapper male figure, probably a monarch or conquistador, donning a silky reddish pink uniform with a lace front panel, golden metallic lace cuffs and collar, and a yellow/gold sash that presents a foliage motif. The attention to detail displayed on his visage is impressive: inlaid eyes (possibly of glass), arched brows, rosy lips, naturalistic ears, wavy brunette coiffure, mustache, and beard. Size: 18.125" H (46 cm); 19.125" H (48.6 cm) on stand

Although beeswax sculptures had been created for centuries, during the mid-1800s their popularity resurged in Mexico. A wonderful example!
