Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Latin America, Mexico, Spanish Colonial, ca. 1800 to 1900 CE. A finely painted oil on tin retablo depicting the Sacred Heart of Jesus or Sagrada Corazon de Jesus with Christ gently parting his robes to reveal a heart enveloped by a crown of thorns and surmounted by a cross on his chest. The Sacred Heart symbolizes compassion and unmitigated love, thus conveying to the devout that one may find and express divine love in one's own heart. The devotion to the Sacred Heart (also known as the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Sacratissimum Cor Iesu in Latin) is one of the most widely practiced and well-known Roman Catholic devotions, taking Jesus Christ's physical heart as the Representation of His Divine Love for Humanity. Size: 7" W x 10" H (17.8 cm x 25.4 cm)
