Description:

Latin America, Mexico, c. 19th century CE. Hand painted on heavy gauge tin, a dramatic depiction of the burial of Christ comprised of five mournful figures, four carrying the recumbant body, the leftmost figure holding her face in her hand in an expression of the utmost grief. The others express quiet suffering with their downcast visages, while their bodies are covered with heavily draped clothes demonstrating the artist's ability to delineate depth and volume.
