Latin America, Mexico, ca. 1885 CE, attributed to Agustin Barajas, aka the "Skimpy Painter." A wonderful painted tin retablo depicting San Mateo (Saint Matthew), the patron saint of accountants, tax collectors, and bankers with all his attributes; an open book (presumably his ledger), a quill, and a winged angel at his side presenting his ink well. The retablo is attributed to Agustin Barajas, also known as the "Skimpy Painter" who also embellished the beautiful composition with the saint's name. Custom mat and frame. Size: Retablo itself measures 10" x 7" (25.4 x 17.8 cm) ; framed 15-1/4" x 12-1/4" (38.7 x 31.1 cm).
