Description:

Latin America, Mexico, ca. 1850 to 1875 CE. A polychromed carved wood Santo de Vestir (dress-up saint) of Sebastian of Aparicio, a Spanish colonist who arrived in Mexico soon after its conquest by the Spaniards, known for his road building and ranching skills in Puebla, Mexico. This dress-up model is beautifully carved and detailed with hand painted cornflower blue undergarments, white socks, and black shoes, ready to be adorned with ceremonial vestments and attributes. His emotive visage, painted with naturalistic features and hues, with inlaid eyes and actual eyelashes, and expressive gestures make for quite a dramatic representation! Includes custom museum-quality mount. Size: figure itself measures 11-3/4" x 6"W (29.8 x 15.2 cm); 13" (33 cm) tall on stand.
