Description:

Latin America, Mexico, Spanish Colonial period, ca. early 19th century CE. A fine pair of hand-built iron spurs with curved bands, integral discoid buttons, curved shanks, and large pronged rowels held in place with iron pins. Each spur displays dozens of dense diagonal stripes along the exterior surfaces, each with thin overlaid strips of silver; the buttons have inlaid spirals of silver. Mexican vaqueros (and some vaqueras) were the quintessential cowboy, and their techniques for managing cattle across the wide open landscapes of Mexico and what is today the American West were the inspiration for the iconic figures of America's Wild West.
