New World, Spanish Colonial, probably Mexico, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-carved, dark wood stirrup with an iron fitting that has been meticulously painted with crosses and other motifs - the paint comprised of copper and nickel rich alloys, hence its beautiful golden and silvery hues. The wooden components of the stirrups are intricately carved with abstract floral, foliage, and geometric motifs - on both top and bottom. Size: 7.5" L x 6.25" H (19 cm x 15.9 cm)
