Description:

South America or Latin America, Peru or Mexico, ca. late 19th century CE. A poignant oil on canvas retablo painting of the Holy Family (La Sagrada Familia) at work: the haloed Saint Joseph at his carpenter's bench, Mary sitting before him with her sewing in her lap - the right hand holding the needle and thread as she has momentarily paused to look out in contemplation with golden rays of holy light framing her face, and the Christ Child holding a ball of thread and a white lily. All is delineated in a vibrant palette of jewel tone hues that contrast with the more neutral tones of the setting. Size: 13.75" L x 10.5" W (34.9 cm x 26.7 cm)
