A Japanese scroll painting (kakejiku) of the Buddhist guardian deity Fudo Myoo, one of the Five Bright Kings who is a manifestation of the Buddha Mahavairochana (Dainichi in Japanese) - surrounded by a fabric-covered mount. Fudo Myoo is thought to protect Buddhism as well as its followers. He manifests in an intimidating manner, wielding a sword in his right hand and a rope in his left hand - sitting before fiery flames that he uses to purify evil. Size of painting: 26.25" L x 11.5" W (66.7 cm x 29.2 cm) Size of scroll: 59.5" L x 17.25" W (151.1 cm x 43.8 cm)
