East Asia, Japanese, Meiji period, ca. 19th century CE. A splendid porcelain plate of the Imari tradition boasting a scalloped rim that resembles the petals of a flower and hand-painted floral and avian decoration. The shallow basin of the dish presents a central tondo of a stylized basket of flowers surrounded by sections of elaborately painted birds, plants, and flowers. Light gold-colored under-glaze embellishes some areas, while the exterior displays blue-on-white abstract designs. Size: 14.5" W x 2.5" H (36.8 cm x 6.4 cm)

Provenance: private Arlington, Texas, USA collection, acquired mid to late-1960s
