Description:

East Asia, China, late Edo to early Meiji period, ca. 19th to early 20th century. A splendid stoneware vessel presenting a flat, circular base, a cylindrical body, and an annular, lipped rim that curves gently inward over a deep basin, all topped by a discoid wooden lid with a central loop handle. The body of this elegant vessel has been intricately incised with a gorgeous motif of satsuma flowers and birds coated in a glistening glaze of mottled chocolate brown and caramel on a sandy tan ground. The lustrous lid and interior have both been painted a rich hue of mocha. Size: 8" in diameter x 6" H (20.3 cm x 15.2 cm)
