East Asia, Japan, late Edo Period, ca. early 19th century CE. A pretty gilded iron tsuba, the hand guard from a traditional Japanese sword like a katana or wakizashi, with relief and inlaid ducks and reeds, the reeds gilded. The opening for the tang is a long trapezoid at the center. Size: 2.65" W x 2.9" H (6.7 cm x 7.4 cm)
