East Asia, China, late Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. An ornate cast copper alloy standing figure of an eighteen-armed, eleven-headed bodhisattva Kannon (Avalokitesvara in Sanskrit; Guanyin in Chinese). The figure stands with a massive headdress and with a large halo of flames behind him atop a lotus flower, his feet close together. Two of his hands are pressed together at his chest in prayer, while the others hold various attributes. The level of detail is fantastic! Size: 9.45" W x 13.75" H (24 cm x 34.9 cm)
