Western Europe, Italy, ca. 19th CE. A brass trinket / snuff box inlaid with a intricate micromosaic in glass. The painstaking arrangement of flowers in pastel hues is not only a testament to skill but extreme patience, glass canes that were a millimeter-thin were cut into tesserae and set into place with tweezers. Micromosaics gained popularity in Rome, where the rich heritage of ancient floor mosaics inspired the miniature pieces that were perfect for European tourists on their Grand Tour looking to take home a portable mementos. Size: 2.3" L x 1.6" W x 1.2" H (5.8 cm x 4.1 cm x 3 cm)
