Description:

Indonesia, ca. 19th century CE. A wooden mask mold delineating a half-visage, finely carved from a single piece of wood, with a striking crest or crown of pointed forms in high relief, an elegant brow line connecting to the nose in bas relief, almond-shaped orbital depressions that gracefully angle up at the outer corners similar to a cat eye, and gently contoured facial planes. While we have seen several fine masks from Indonesia, a mold like this is hard to find. A special example with marvelous patina that has developed over the years. Custom, museum-quality stand. Size: 10.125" W x 9" H (25.7 cm x 22.9 cm); 14.75" H (37.5 cm) on stand
