Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Java, ca. 19th century CE. Hard not to smile when you look upon this happy fellow! Wooden kris (keris) handle featuring a smiling figure that appears very much like a monk sitting in a cane chair with hands clasped to his chest, wearing long flowing robe. He may represent one of the nine saints who converted Java to Islam or, given his alluring smile, he may be a more minimalist interpretation of the Putrasatu (Prince). Lovely! Size: 3"H x 1.125"W + custom stand.

Provenance: Ex-private collection of the late Ami Brown, foremost Israeli art collector and founder of Coca Cola Israel.
