Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Java, ca. mid-19th to early 20th century CE. A forged-steel ceremonial spear blade known as a tombak with a bulbous, flaming profile bearing sharpened edges and a dramatically pointed tip. The tang is inserted into the top of a polished wooden handle with a brass end cap, and the blade is protected by a bell-shaped scabbard painted in red and golden-yellow hues. Size (w/ sheath): 3" W x 29.25" H (7.6 cm x 74.3 cm); (blade w/ tang): 2.6" W x 10.25" H (6.6 cm x 26 cm)
