Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A forged-steel kris exhibiting a serpentine profile and a leonine-headed hand guard. The hand-carved dugong ivory handle depicts a squatting mythological male figure, and below is a copper-silver spacer disc with a granulated design. The wooden guard protector and blade housing are situated in a 75% to 94% silver sheath jacket engraved with dense foliage motifs; some areas have developed blue-hued patina.
