Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A ceremonial sword called a kris with a forged-steel blade bearing noteworthy serpentine profile. The tang is covered with a hand-carved dugong ivory handle depicting an abstract phytomorphic form, and the wooden sheath is comprised of 2 pieces - the larger guard protector with a sweeping profile, and a slender blade housing. Size (w/ sheath): 2" L x 6.625" W x 18.6" H (5.1 cm x 16.8 cm x 47.2 cm); (blade): 14.75" L x 3.25" W (37.5 cm x 8.3 cm)
