Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. mid to late 19th century CE. A wonderful example of a traditional Indonesian ceremonial kris (keris) boasting an intricately-carved bone hilt and a forged-steel blade. Showcasing a serpentine profile, the blade is adorned with beautiful swirls of nickel forming a pamor pattern as well as a pointed guard with a protruding hook on the other side. A decorative silvered brass spacer lies between the blade and hilt and the weapon is accompanied by a wooden sheath. Size of blade: 13.6" L x 3.3" W (34.5 cm x 8.4 cm); of kris without sheath: 17.5" L x 3.3" W (44.4 cm x 8.4 cm); with sheath: 20.4" L x 7.2" W (51.8 cm x 18.3 cm)

  • Condition: Hilt has been professionally repaired with small area of loss at bottom. Some pieces of wood are stuck into the openwork design of the hilt. Sheath also has areas of repair with break lines and adhesive visible, as well as some chipping and abrasions. Some losses to spacer. Otherwise, blade is intact and kris and sheath both have nice presentations with light patinas.
