Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. 19th to 20th century CE. A striking example of a traditional Indonesian ceremonial kris (keris) featuring a sandalwood sheath enveloped in elaborate silver repousse decoration and a curved hilt adorned with a petite silver spacer of 8 inlaid diamonds and a larger nickel bauble of 40 inlaid white sapphires. Slide out the straight iron blade from the sheath and be mesmerized by the swirls of nickel that dance across the dark steel. The dark, mocha-hued handle is intricately carved with a pair of maskettes, while the large bauble features ornate, applied vegetal motifs. Size w/ sheath: 19.8" L x 7.3" W (50.3 cm x 18.5 cm); w/out sheath: 18.5" L x 3.7" W (47 cm x 9.4 cm); of blade only: 14.9" L x 3.3" W (37.8 cm x 8.4 cm); silver quality: sheath: 93%, spacer: 84.7%
