Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Kenyah Dayak people, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-carved wooden drinking vessel, used primarily for water, with an elaborately carved openwork finial attached to the verso. One side of the vessel is slightly slanted to form a spout for easy pouring. Size: 17.5" L x 3.5" W x 11.3" H (44.4 cm x 8.9 cm x 28.7 cm); 19.1" H (48.5 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, acquired in September 2023

  • Condition: Openwork wooden portion attached to vessel body via modern metal wire. Repairs to some openwork decorations along top periphery, with light abrasions and softening to some finer details, and small areas of infill along vessel body, otherwise in great condition. Nice patina throughout.
