Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A personal ceremonial sword known as a kris (also keris) with a hand-carved dugong ivory handle bearing an abstract phytomorphic form; beneath the handle is a silvered copper spacer disc. The forged-iron blade bears a straight profile with sharpened edges, a slightly protruding hand guard, and an indented fuller along the shoulder. The wooden guard protector is of a bulbous form and rests atop a brass sheath jacket adorned with dense avian and foliage motifs in repousse. Size (w/ sheath): 5.375" W x 19.25" H (13.7 cm x 48.9 cm); (blade): 15.625" L x 3.1" W (39.7 cm x 7.9 cm)

- Condition: Blade housing is separated from the guard protector and is stuck within the sheath jacket. Minor abrasions and oxidation to blade, with a few stable hairline fissures to handle. Nice patina throughout.
