Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A personal ceremonial sword known as a kris (also keris) with a hand-carved dugong ivory handle bearing an abstract phytomorphic form; beneath the handle is a silvered copper spacer disc. The forged-iron blade bears a straight profile with sharpened edges, a slightly protruding hand guard, and an indented fuller along the shoulder. The wooden guard protector is of a bulbous form and rests atop a brass sheath jacket adorned with dense avian and foliage motifs in repousse. Size (w/ sheath): 5.375" W x 19.25" H (13.7 cm x 48.9 cm); (blade): 15.625" L x 3.1" W (39.7 cm x 7.9 cm)

This is an ESA antique exempt piece of ivory and cannot be sold internationally or to anyone residing in the states of California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington. We guarantee that the piece is over 100 years old.

  • Condition: Blade housing is separated from the guard protector and is stuck within the sheath jacket. Minor abrasions and oxidation to blade, with a few stable hairline fissures to handle. Nice patina throughout.
