Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A nice example of a personal ceremonial dagger called a kris (also keris). The hand-carved wooden handle features a pair of abstract anthropomorphic maskettes along the interior curve, and beneath is a silvered brass spacer densely adorned in petite granules. The forged-iron blade exhibits a straight profile with a protruding hand guard, sharpened edges, and lighter streaks of hammered nickel. The wooden sheath has a bulbous guard protector above a slender blade housing, and a removable brass jacket bears attractive floral motifs in repousse on one side. Size (w/ sheath): 19.625" L x 6" W (49.8 cm x 15.2 cm); (blade): 13.7" L x 2.875" W (34.8 cm x 7.3 cm)
