Central Asia, India/Pakistan, Indo-Persian culture, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely hammered steel helmet known as a khula khud with a domed design with a thin, perforated lower rim. The front of the helmet bears a pair of riveted socketing shafts flanking a spade-shaped nose guard, and delicate etchings of animals and religious figures adorn the exterior around the spike finial. Most of the perforated lower rim is lined with a swath of iron chainmail mesh that hangs down to protect the wearer's neck. Size: 7.8" W x 10.4" H (19.8 cm x 26.4 cm)
