Description:

Central Asia, India, Hill Tribe/Orissa, ca. end of 19th to early 20th century CE. A stunning glass bead necklace made by the Orissa culture composed of sixty strands of red glass beads - most being white heart beads - with the occasional translucent and orange glass seed bead (amounting to hundreds of beads), with pairs of larger red beads at the termini meeting the macrame and beaded (orange, blue/white, and white) sections toward the nape of the neck where the ends are joined by a twisted macrame cord and a 1959 Indian George VI quarter clasp - the coin added later. During special rituals on their calendar, Orissa men and women dress in ceremonial clothing and ornaments, including stunning necklaces like this one. So striking and absolutely wearable! Size: 25" L (63.5 cm)
