South Asia, India, Mughal, ca. 19th century CE. A wonderful manuscript page depicting the goddess Meenakshi - an avatar of Parvati - with a parrot perched on her left hand as she gazes right, all delineated with lustrous copper details and pigments of blue, red, green, peach, white, and black. Heavily adorned in earrings, necklaces, an armband, a headdress, a septum ring, and bangles, the beautiful deity wears a veil draped over her head, as well as a green top and gilt pants. An archway frames the goddess. Size (without frame): 4.3" W x 7.6" H (10.9 cm x 19.3 cm); (with frame): 8.5" W x 12" H (21.6 cm x 30.5 cm)

Provenance: ex-private collection of actor Anthony Quinn and his wife Katherine, Bristol, Rhode Island, USA acquired prior to 2000

  • Condition: Has not been examined outside of frame. Some staining and losses of pigment in areas. Page appears to be cut along bottom. Otherwise, intact and excellent with nice pigments. Fit with modern frame and matting.
