Description:

Central Asia, India, ca. 19th century CE. A fine example of a bell-shaped, ceramic oven of a style known as a Punjabi tandoor, made to cook traditional Punjabi cuisine. These are often used in the courtyards of homes to make roti and naan. This example has a narrow, rolled rim and the rest of the exterior is decorated with thirteen horizontal bands of Gurmukhi script, the written version of the Punjabi language, developed during the 16th century CE. Size: 6.35" W x 9.65" H (16.1 cm x 24.5 cm)
