Description:

Central Asia, Northern India, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-carved wooden figure of a kneeling tribal warrior wearing a medallion-capped belt around his slender waist. He has a smooth chest, broad shoulders with no arms, and a narrow neck that supports the ovoid head. The stoic visage is defined by almond-shaped eyes in relief, a bulbous triangular nose, pursed lips, cupped ears, and shallow nasolabial folds, all beneath a smooth forehead and a tiered, segmented headdress. Traces of original white and red-orange pigment are visible across the composition and suggest the figure was adorned with bright pigment at one time. Size: 3.375" W x 12.8" H (8.6 cm x 32.5 cm); 13.8" H (35.1 cm) on included custom stand.
