Description:

South Asia, India, ca. 19th century CE. A fabulous pair of hand-carved stone elephants that stand on integral, rectangular pedestals. The elephants rest with their front legs slightly slanted as If they are bowing or preparing to be rode upon. Both are carved with swirling patterns and ridges across their bodies as well as a cloth draped over their backs. The cloths are carved with incised floral motifs. Their faces have large almond shaped eyes with black pigments that highlight their brows and pupils. The greenstone itself presents pretty light yellow and green hues with pink inclusions. This charming pair would make wonderful bookends! Size: 6" L x 3" W x 5" H (15.2 cm x 7.6 cm x 12.7 cm)
