Description:

South Asia, India, ca. 19th century CE. A miniature brass devotional throne known as a singhasan featuring a Hindu religious scene. The elephant headed Ganesh is seated on the right with an animal, perhaps tiger standing at his side. A deity, perhaps Shiva is seated at the rear below the arched wall, which contains a face within a circle in relief. Another devotional figure sits to the left against the other wall. A large lingam rises up in the center. The exterior is decorated with low relief geometric motifs and loops are cast on each corner, perhaps for suspension. A rich patina covers the surface. Size: 2.125" L x 1.675" W x 2.75" H (5.4 cm x 4.3 cm x 7 cm)
