South Asia, India, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A cast-brass belt buckle with an openwork triangular body, a deeply curved hook body, and the head of an abstract serpent surmounting the hook. The serpent's body is decorated with incised circular and diamond-shaped motifs, and one circular eye is inlaid with red pigment. Size: 2.3" W x 2.875" H (5.8 cm x 7.3 cm)
