North Pacific, Hawaiian Islands, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A superb model outrigger canoe made from dark koa wood and hand tied cords that lash the outrigger float and booms together, and miniature paddles are included. The scaled down boat models are beautiful examples of the artistry and skill needed to make seaworthy vessels, models were used in religious ceremonies for ancestors and to improve / optimize one's design while using minimal materials.
