Description:

South Pacific, Hawaiian Islands, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-knapped basalt blade used for a utilitarian adze. The trapezoidal blade features a dense butt end that would be fitted atop the head of an adze as well as a broad blade for plowing through the soft, fertile earth. The stone exhibits a dark gray, nearly black color that is quite attractive. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 2.25" L x 1.2" W (5.7 cm x 3 cm)
