Eastern Europe, Greece, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A fine collection of 3 Greek Orthodox painted wood icons, all of rectangular form and fit into a modern wooden frame. From left to right, the first icon displays the image of a male Saint in a long robe facing a river to his right as he grasps a scroll. A petite church can be seen in the distance and some Greek inscriptions are shown near the top amongst liberal remains of silvering that embellish the sky. Alternatively, the second and most petite icon exhibits a pair of figures conversing in front of a church with lustrous gilding adorning the sky. The figure on the left wears a green, hooded schema, while the other has on a lengthy, maroon robe. Last, the third icon features a shiny silvered image of a complex scene of 9 figures with Jesus and Mary in the clouds and liberal remains of Greek inscriptions throughout. Size of largest: 2.8" W x 3.5" H (7.1 cm x 8.9 cm); (frame): 11.7" W x 6.1" H (29.7 cm x 15.5 cm)
