Central Asia, India, Naga peoples, ca. end of 19th to early 20th century CE. A stunning glass bead necklace made by the Naga culture composed of twenty-six strands of hundreds of gold and orange glass seed beads; four pairs of faceted bronze beads are symmetrically placed at the lower ends and upper termini of the necklace; closer to the nape of the neck is a twisted macrame cord and pom pom clasp. The Naga people are a combination of tribes in northeastern India and northwestern Burma known for their artistry, particularly when it comes to jewelry. During special rituals on their calendar, men and women dress in ceremonial clothing and ornaments, including stunning necklaces like this one. Still wearable! Size: 29" L (73.7 cm); metal beads are about .5" in diameter (1.3 cm)
