Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Western Europe, France, ca. mid-19th century CE. A percussion pistol with a stock carved from a single piece of deep brown wood. The curved handle is lined with a brass butt plate, a brass trigger guard, and a brass side plate secured by two large screws. The cylindrical barrel is held in place by a thick brass astragal along the midsection and rests in front of the percussion firing mechanism that causes the cocked hammer to fall when the trigger is pulled. A narrow slot beneath the forestock houses an iron ram rod. A stamped hallmark "P" is visible on one side of the barrel as well as a similar but faint hallmark in front of the hammer. Size: 13.875" L x 6" H (35.2 cm x 15.2 cm); (bore): 0.625" W (1.6 cm)
