Description:

Western Europe, France, ca. 19th century CE. A skillfully-crafted cast-bronze signal cannon comprised of six primary components. The two sides of the mount have stepped forms, each with three aesthetic circular perforations, with mounting holes for the cannon barrel and both sets of wheels. A pair of small spoked wheels stabilizes the back end, and a pair of large wheels braces the front end. A sizeable cannon barrel is mounted by two integral lugs atop the upper portion of the mounting base, has a gradually-tapering muzzle, a conical wick groove, and a bulb-shaped butt end. Connected to the butt is a small triangular block and a threaded pole with an eight-pronged wheel; when turned, this wheel either raises or lowers the back end of the cannon, thereby adjusting the trajectory of any fired projectile. A simply beautiful miniature example of French craftsmanship! Size: 6.25" L x 3.25" H (15.9 cm x 8.3 cm).
