Description:

Southeast Asia, Philippines, northern Luzon, Igorot culture, ca. 19th to mid-20th century CE. A wonderful spear known as a falfeg or falfog, presenting a petaloid, iron spear head held in place by woven rattan and a lengthy wooden body shaft that tapers to a sharp point fit with a conical iron cap. An intricately woven rattan sheath with a carved wood finial of a floral motif snugly fits atop the iron head, which exhibits a rounded point, a prominent spine, corseted neck, and a gently flared tang. Smoothly carved, the elongated shaft boasts a beautiful natural woodgrain surface, displaying rich hues of mocha, espresso, and chocolate brown. Expertly woven rattan adorns the area just below the iron head, while a cone-shaped iron cap was placed on the base of the shaft in order to protect the spear when being used as a staff. Size (with sheath): 2.4" W x 70" H (6.1 cm x 177.8 cm); 70.6" H (179.3 cm) on included custom stand; (without sheath): 1.7" W x 68.4" H (4.3 cm x 173.7 cm); 69.5" H (176.5 cm) on included custom stand.
