Southeast Asia, Philippine, Igorot, ca. 19th century CE. A shafted weapon, this is a tall spear with a fine cast iron blade with a bamboo pole attached to the socket. The head has a broad petaloid blade with a tapered tip and the socketed end is hafted onto the lengthy wood shaft, and woven rattan rings and braided vegetal cords adorn the iron socketing neck and top of the pole. The opposite pommel end of the handle is capped by a sheet iron folded into a tubular shape and may have served as a secondary spike or to reinforce the pole when resting upright. Size: 84.5" L x 1.5" W (214.6 cm x 3.8 cm); 86.5" H (219.7 cm) on included custom stand.
