Description:

Europe, probably England or France, ca. 19th century CE. A ceremonial sword with a narrow, straight steel blade and a polished brass handle. A beautiful woven gold-colored ribbon is wrapped around the branch from just below the pommel. The ribbon terminates in a large, heavy glass-beaded ball. The handle has a small guard, a quillion, and a cast design. The scabbard is tipped with brass at both ends and is dark leather in between. This type of sword is sometimes known as a spadroon, a light sword (also called a small sword) with a straight blade. The spadroon became popular in the 1790s with military officers in England, and quickly spread to France and the United States. Size: 3.25" W x 13.7" H (8.3 cm x 34.8 cm)
