Description:

Western Europe, France, Italy, or Austria, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A charming and realistic cast bronze snake plaque. The plate is signed with an indistinct name. The bronze panel is nailed to a wood base covered in red and green cloth. The details, scales, head shape, and tongue flicking out all speak to the artists familiarity with this reptile. The narrow head suggests a non-venomous species that could have been closely examined to create this lovely piece! Size: 8.75" L x 4.75" W x 0.75" H (22.2 cm x 12.1 cm x 1.9 cm); 1.5" H (3.8 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Rancho Mirage, California, USA collection, by inheritance in 2020; ex-Dr. TDR Berreth, California, USA, acquired before 1982
