Africa, Mali, Dogon, ca. 19th century CE. Carved wooden figure of abstract male form, the stylized standing figure with jutting hips, slender arms bent and held to waist, bullet shape head with intriguing facial features. Size: 14.625" H (37.1 cm); 16" H (40.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-Dr. George Wald, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA; acquired in the 1960's; Dr. Wald was the recipient of the 1967 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work on the retina.
