East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. An ornate, wonderfully carved soapstone vessel featuring an openwork chamber so you can keep an eye on whatever treasure you put inside. The lid and two decorative finials on the sides are in the form of lion-like mythological creatures. The base is carved from a dark brown soapstone that resembles wood, while the upper body has a pretty olive green sheen. Size: 5.45" W x 5.05" H (13.8 cm x 12.8 cm)
