Description:

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely Shiwan pottery teapot; a short spout at the front and opening mouth opposite fitted with a modern wood stopper. The handle arches between a pair of flared lugs and the vessel has a hexagonal shape with a slightly indented base, and a red wax export seal just before the spout. The surface is glazed in a thick jade green hue that pools in heavy droplets just above the base. Size: 7.5" Diameter x 8" H (19 cm x 20.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010

  • Condition: Small area of restoration to spout rim, otherwise intact and very good. Surface wear commensurate with age and use, and nice craquelure to glaze. Black wood lid is modern. Wax export seal on top as shown.
